The Folly of Youth
May 18, 2014 at 9:36pm
The folly of youth,
To imagine monsters and beasts of fable
Of yourself as meat on a table
To see yourself as tragic oppressed
Your love all Romeo E Julieta
Why should an old man bell your cat?
Enjoy your folly, for that is what youth is for
Alas One day your eyes will open
And you may see the monster is you
Your arrogance to think your romance matters to anyone else
The freedoms you take for granted
To sing insults to all and sundry
You never had to run from the man with the knife
The plantain chip man who would stick you like a pig
Your heroic image of yourself
Pulling at goliath’s tongue
You so young and silly
David passed this way many moons ago
Go ahead tilt at your windmills
Monsters! Beasts! Racists!
Why do they not applaud when you and your lover walk by?
Apathy must feel like rejection
So lash out
Be quick with your imaginary knife
But thank God these old men disarmed the capital
You speak of Rodney the hero
Do you know the Rodney who ran?
Up the Orange Walk
Our hero died that day
Our folly of our youth
The bomb in the car blew up a man
A tragic that bit more than he could chew
A man who ran
The folly of my youth
So who am I to tell you of your monsters and beasts?
When you grow up it all becomes too clear too soon
Enjoy!

There is no facebook in China
Your head would be covered in Saudi Arabia
Three steps behind the one you love
Yet you are oppressed
The weight crushes your thought to a finely tuned sword
Take the advice of an old man
Visit a shrink
Exorcise your demons
Remember the words of the wise man Bob
“none but ourselves can free our minds”
When the folly of youth passes
And the cynicism of old age set in
Your baton rape become a fraud’s game
Angels and church boys
Break your doors and burn your toes
Bullets kill beasts!
Real bullets! Real beasts!
Stand up and be counted
Run for parliament
See if you speak for the people
Or if they view you as another ranting beast
Run with the big dogs
Or stay on the porch hurling insults
Go on youth
It’s your time
I didn’t rhyme?
I am an old man
I don’t give a shit!
